A note from Mimi

Dear Friends,

I understand the impact on our immune systems, our physical and emotional health and our fragile environment that so many commonly used toxic, carcinogenic and endocrine-disrupting ingredients and materials can lead to. I’ve lost dearly loved ones to cancer, and have survived and thrived while living with a host of auto-immune diseases, including Graves and Celiac Disease. These experiences have deepened my commitment to addressing the health and environmental challenges rooted in unethical and environmentally unsound policies and business practices that produce toxic or unsafe food, beauty and home cleaning products and their disproportionate impact on communities of color.

As an artist, teacher, assistant principal, principal and assistant superintendent in our nation’s most underserved communities for over thirty-five years, my most critical role was that of an advocate and activist for the social justice issues of health, environmental and educational equity and access. Post-retirement, I remain deeply committed to this role.

I initially crafted my own health and wellness goods as a way to avoid toxic mass-produced products and heal myself, my family and friends. With their enthusiastic encouragement and support, Tenderworks naturally evolved into a way of bringing awareness and sharing these healthy alternatives with a broader community. We warmly welcome you to join us on this journey!

Stay safe and healthy!

Mimi
